MagLev is the name of an upcoming Ruby virtual machine under development by GemStone. Based on GemStone's Smalltalk Virtual machine,[1] MagLev compiles Ruby to bytecode, which is then compiled to native machine code using a just-in-time compiler.[2] MagLev was first revealed publicly at RailsConf 2008.[3] It is currently undergoing public alpha testing.[4]
